Effective solutions for storing wet artwork

Storing oil paintings while wet

Painting with Cold Wax Medium can be a messy process! So first of all, I advise you to wear old clothes and if you work on a table, cover your work area with a plastic sheet (I found a good one at Ikea for only €6), or put a large wooden board under your painting. Always keep old cloths or paper towels at hand! I clean my tools, hands, face, dog (..) etc with baby oil and baby wipes.

Painting with cold wax medium requires patience!

When we paint with Cold Wax Medium, it is better to work on several paintings at the same time because of different drying times, which means that we have a lot of wet paintings that we need to store. Also, when you take in-person lessons or workshops, wet artwork is difficult to transport without getting your car covered in paint!

I discovered these very handy solutions and I thought I would share them with you! The Pizza Box solution is my absolute favourite💚

Wet Painting Storage

If you are lucky and you have a studio, you can use this hanging system to hang your wet paintings on your wall (and work on them). We used wooden planks and drilled small holes in them. You can change the height by changing the pegs, depending on how big your painting is.

Below some more fun storage solutions for your wet paintings. Instead of a dish rack, you can also use a laundry rack for your bigger paintings or make a home made dry rack out of crib rails.
