Free Class · Cold Wax & Oils

Curious about cold wax? Come and discover what appears.

Bring your oil paints and cold wax medium and come paint with me. I’ll guide you step by step as we create one rich, textured abstract flower painting.

Perhaps you are curious about cold wax, or you already have a jar waiting in the studio and don’t quite know where to begin. This is a gentle, playful way in: one painting, three simple stages and plenty of room to experiment. You don’t need to know what the painting will become before you begin.

The goal is never to copy my painting. It is to find your own way of making it.

You will need cold wax medium for this project. If you do not have a jar yet, order it first. Your personal link is valid for 30 days, and your 15 days begin only when you press Start.

My 3-step method

This is what we’ll do together

Three simple stages, with everything explained as we go.

Build the first layers
01

Build the first layers

We mix cold wax medium into the oil paint, then spread, scrape and make a lively textured foundation with simple tools.

Play with colour
02

Play with colour

We build loose layers of transparent and opaque colour without deciding where the flowers need to go yet.

Find the flowers
03

Find the flowers

Then we look into the busy background and use negative painting to reveal the flowers already waiting there, finishing with a little PanPastel if you have it.

Look what you can create

Student work

This is what I love about a layered process: everyone begins with the same steps, yet no two paintings look alike.

Marina Teding van Berkhout

Artist & instructor

I’m Marina, a Dutch professional artist living in the south of France. I created this free class because I’d love for you to discover the cold wax medium! There’s something magical about letting go of perfection, picking up a palette knife, and just playing. Cold wax opened up a whole new world of painting for me, and I want you to experience that same creative freedom.

Questions?

Frequently asked

Is this really free?+

Yes. This is the complete class, not a shortened taster. You can enjoy every lesson free for 15 days. There is no card, no hidden cost and no automatic subscription.

Do I need any experience?+

Not at all. We begin with texture and colour, not a careful drawing, and I guide you through every step. Come curious and paint with me.

Is this class just for oils + cold wax?+

Yes, this class is designed specifically for oils with cold wax medium, so everything is geared to slow drying time and lush, layered texture.

What supplies do I need?+

Oil paints, cold wax medium, a palette knife or scraper, a few simple texture tools and an oil-ready surface. You’ll find the complete list inside. PanPastel is optional.

What happens after 15 days?+

Your access simply closes. Nothing is charged and there is nothing to cancel. If you would like to keep the class, it remains available through Texture Lab Gold for as long as you are a member.

I took this class before. Has my access changed?+

No. Students who joined the original version keep their original access. The 15-day period applies only to new signups.
