My 3-step method

This is what we’ll do together

Three simple stages, with everything explained as we go.

Step 01, Building your base
01

Building your base

We start with a textured layer using lots of different texture tools, building the foundation of the painting.

Step 02, Adding some colour
02

Adding some colour

The next layer is full of colours. Don't think of the subject yet, just play and experiment.

Step 03, Finding the flowers
03

Finding the flowers

We find beautiful abstract flowers in our 'busy' background, and add a bit of pan pastel for interest.

Marina Teding van Berkhout

Artist & instructor

I’m Marina, a Dutch professional artist living in the south of France. I created this free lesson because I’d love for you to discover the cold wax medium! There’s something magical about letting go of perfection, picking up a palette knife, and just playing. Cold wax opened up a whole new world of painting for me, and I want you to experience that same creative freedom.

Yes, this class is designed specifically for oils with cold wax medium, so everything is geared to slow drying time and lush, layered texture.
