Texture Medium & First Layers
We mix texture medium into the acrylics (Heavy Gel Medium or similar) and build textured first layers with a few simple tools.
Paint six little flower paintings, full of layers and texture.
This mini class is created in acrylics, using a texture medium to build beautiful layers (I used a heavy gel medium, any similar product works just as well).
You can also paint along in oils and cold wax using the same layering technique, just a different medium.
Start anytime, work at your own pace, and enjoy lifetime access. This is a self-guided class, but you can always reach out by email with questions.
Watch a quick peek at what you'll be painting in this mini class, from your very first textured layers to charming little flower paintings full of colour and personality.

Three simple stages, with everything explained as we go.

We mix texture medium into the acrylics (Heavy Gel Medium or similar) and build textured first layers with a few simple tools.

We choose a strong, limited palette and build lively, layered backgrounds until they feel just right.

We turn those textured backgrounds into small flower paintings and finish with expressive details.
Heavy gel or any texture medium, a few simple tools, and paper.
Beginner-friendly and guided step by step the whole way.
You finish a cohesive mini-series in your own palette.
Lifetime access, repaint in new palettes anytime.

Artist & instructor
I'm Marina, a Dutch artist living in the south of France. Cold wax and oils are my first love, and I'm endlessly inspired by layers, texture, and the happy surprises that appear while painting. In this class we use that same layered approach with acrylics and texture medium.
“Marina clearly describes her step-by-step process, making textures with fun tools, and encourages you to play, experiment and find your own style.”
“Marina is so talented and gracious, sharing her cold wax process in both oil and acrylic.”
“Loved all of the courses I did with Marina. She is an excellent teacher.”

Heavy gel medium or another acrylic texture medium works perfectly. The same layered approach also translates to cold wax and oils if you prefer.
No. It's beginner-friendly and I guide you step by step through layering, texture, and intuitive painting.
Acrylic paints, a texture medium, a palette knife or scraper, a few texture tools, and mixed-media paper or a sketchbook.
Yes. The demo uses acrylics, but cold wax and oils work beautifully with the very same techniques.
Absolutely. Paper is recommended for this small format, but canvas or board work too.
Not really, the techniques apply to abstracts, portraits, and lots of subjects. Flowers are just a joyful way to learn them.
Lifetime access. Revisit the lessons anytime and repaint in new palettes whenever you like.
