Textured Mini-Flowers in Acrylics, class thumbnail

This mini class is created in acrylics, using a texture medium to build beautiful layers (I used a heavy gel medium, any similar product works just as well).

You can also paint along in oils and cold wax using the same layering technique, just a different medium.

Start anytime, work at your own pace, and enjoy lifetime access. This is a self-guided class, but you can always reach out by email with questions.

Three simple stages, with everything explained as we go.

We choose a strong, limited palette and build lively, layered backgrounds until they feel just right.

We turn those textured backgrounds into small flower paintings and finish with expressive details.

Artist & instructor

I'm Marina, a Dutch artist living in the south of France. Cold wax and oils are my first love, and I'm endlessly inspired by layers, texture, and the happy surprises that appear while painting. In this class we use that same layered approach with acrylics and texture medium.

Questions?

Frequently asked

Which medium can I use for this class?+

Heavy gel medium or another acrylic texture medium works perfectly. The same layered approach also translates to cold wax and oils if you prefer.

Do I need experience to take this class?+

No. It's beginner-friendly and I guide you step by step through layering, texture, and intuitive painting.

What supplies do I need?+

Acrylic paints, a texture medium, a palette knife or scraper, a few texture tools, and mixed-media paper or a sketchbook.

Can I use oils instead of acrylics?+

Yes. The demo uses acrylics, but cold wax and oils work beautifully with the very same techniques.

Can I work on canvas?+

Absolutely. Paper is recommended for this small format, but canvas or board work too.

Is this only about flowers?+

Not really, the techniques apply to abstracts, portraits, and lots of subjects. Flowers are just a joyful way to learn them.

How long do I have access?+

Lifetime access. Revisit the lessons anytime and repaint in new palettes whenever you like.
